Welcome to Malton Relish, my hope is that through this website you gain a little insight into my shop and what I am trying to achieve. Malton Relish is a deli situated in Malton, North Yorkshire  ("Gods Own County"), which lies at the foot of the North Yorkshire Moors.

I have lived here since I was five, when my parents came back to farm, so my childhood revolved around the farming calander. Easter holidays meant lambing and summer holidays, harvest. Birthdays and special events always centered on a meal, and being farmers often the entire meal would be "home grown". Boarding school, followed by a stint in London, made me realise how exceptional this was.

Yorkshire is a great place to live, and Malton has a big heart.  A traditional working market town, Tuesdays and Fridays are still dominated by the sheep and cattle market, meaning you are as likely to see a tractor driving up the high street as a lorry.  Being surrounded by farms, and with the moors and sea so close this really is a foodies heaven.  Food can come from field to plate within a mile!

I opened the deli in order to provide the locals with a little emporium, somewhere to lay their hands on the finer, and indeed often quirkier ingredients that are so hard to find. I had long been a freelance cook in the area and regularly found myself driving through to York, or even Leeds, in order to source top quality ingredients.

Since opening just two weeks before Christmas ‘07, the response has been overwhelming, the general support from the community and friendship from my fellow shop owners and customers continues to amaze me.

To start up in such difficult times and succeed is a great challenge but hopefully this is just the beginning!
